It turns out you really can't pee and vacuum the bathroom at the same time.

This is gravel on a beach in Maui.  I decided that it made more sense to use this as a background than the Watteau, Gersaint's Signboard that I had been using.  To my surprise (after I chose it) the color scheme is about the same.  That's partly because then image I had been using was so poor. I took this picture more than ten years ago, and when I recently used it (again, to my surprise) on Facebook it was a hit.  I'm still working out in my head the relationship of this blog to Facebook, which has become my preferred instrument of public interaction, and to my other writing.  And to my life, for that matter.
